Two years and a day ago, for no particular reason:

Mailmen(women/persons) must love traffic. They’re in the worst kind of self-imposed stop-n-go every single day, and dont seem to mind a whit. I imagine that when they go to concerts, sporting events, gun shows, or whatever other high-traffic event with their friends, they are always the ones that drive. Their companions probably get to the point where they’re yelling at other cars, flipping people off, and banging their heads on the windows in complete frustration; all while the mailman(woman/person) remains calm and collected.

You think this is bad? theyll say, you should see the 700 block of Pine.

I’m off to Encino this afternoon. Which means, you know, PARTY!

So obviously I’ve been messing around a bit here. I have vague plans for a complete design overhaul, move over to MT, and possible switching of hosts… but that seems a bit daunting at the moment. To tell you the truth, I like the simplicity of this design, if not the details of it. The code is a bit wonky, the colors need some updating, and the banner image could definitely use some work; but for the most part, I’m fairly happy with the overall effect (could I be any more non-committal?)

Bleh… we’ll see how it goes.

Speaking of banner-images, I still need someone to design/suggest one for the plates section. It’s been up for something like 2 years now and I think it deserves one. I mean, I know it’s no Mirror Project, but still…

PS Do you think this is a step in the right direction?

I’ve not been taking advantage enough of the cathartic quality of blogging, as of late. So here we go:

annnnd RELEASE!

much better. I don’t have a great memory, or wait, yes I do, but not for some things. For instance, I have no idea who my elementary school teachers were, or what they looked like; except, perhaps for my 4th grade teacher at Kingsbury Elementary (I think): Mrs. Moore (or possibly Monroe). I don’t remember much about childhood friends, or my childhood rooms. If you asked me what furniture I had, I’d be able to tell you because I had it through high school; but how it was arranged in the different houses I lived in is anybody’s guess. For that matter, the houses I lived in are really beyond my recollection, except for the cities they were in, and the basic look of the house.

Why is this?

I’m sure some of it has to do with moving around a bit as a young kid. Being an Air Force family, I never really expected to stay anywhere for too long, so why bother committing all the details to memory? Maybe it wasn’t important to me at the time. Maybe what was important were the types of things I do remember.

Like how Maury Povich used to be more like Dan Rather than Jerry Springer.
Or how Eric and Julie brought in the now aborted creation of reality television.
Or how the Grinch had a heart two sizes too small.

Hmmm, those weren’t so important after all.

I remember events. Stories or things I did. Many of them damaging, of course, like when I cut my finger and needed stitches, or when I broke my arm flying off of a trampoline, or the countless tornadoes I was sure I was about to die in; but many are happy, singular events. Hitting golf balls with my grandfather, being babysat for the first time by my cousin, doing art projects at school. Things like that.

I’m fairly sure I had a very content and happy childhood, so it puzzles me why I should choose to block most of it out. Perhaps it was more traumatic than I recall, or perhaps I just have never took the time to really stop and think about it. So, my question to you, is this: how much do you remember?

Sorry about the lack of posting as of late (isn’t that the first thing you’re not supposed to do according to the Rules of Blogging©… apologize for not?). I’ve been going through some stuff as of late, and am not in my usual observant-of-the-human-condition mood. Quality content should resume in the near future.

There’s a sign above the El Pollo Loco advertising their latest deal. The verbatim re-creation is:

Whole Chicken $7.99!
That’s like getting a whole chicken for less than $8!

Well, duh…

Update

First of all, I’ve been an incredible flake. Kind people have been sending me license plates for the plates section, and I haven’t been updating. Clearly, I need more Niacin in my diet. Niacin being the vitamin you take when you need updating you see… for no apparent reason.

Yeah.

So check it out. There are several new submissions by my most frequent poster, Erica, as well as a new one by new Abbie.

Speaking of flakes, now that you’ve mentioned it, I long ago requested a title image of some kind for the plates page. Work on that, won’t you? There will be love and recognition involved.

To the anonymous caller who I kept hanging up on: No, I am not, nor have I ever been, interested in changing my long-distance telephone service. No, not even for a free gift.

By the way, where are all those Weapons of Mass Destruction™ I used to hear so much about?

As the Terror Alert Level is again raised to orange, it’s second-highest level, by the Federal Government, local officials are on the news are telling Los Angelenos to simply go about their daily lives. They then prop the L.A. Chief of Police in front of the camera to soothe our jangles nerves by telling us how they have no information about any imminent attacks, that there is no overt reason for concern, and that Los Angeles is not a future target of terrorist activity… to the best of their knowledge.

This does not fill me with confidence. As near as I can tell, no one knew about the World Trade Center attacks, either. Duck and cover!
