Last night was Macy Gray and Dave Matthews at PacBell Park. Eric Clapton also made an appearance, which was very cool; but, I don’t think most people realized it due to the drive-thru window reverberating sound system, and, Dave’s (we’re on a first name basis) mumbling. It was something like, “m’kay-ay-ay, fleasg relcome-ome-ome… Bister Bali Glayton-on-on!!!”

Another highlight was the awesome contact-high woo-action from the nearly sold-out crowd. (This, by the way, harkens to a previous post by Meg which was in turn horked from misterpants)

The two girls in front of me were clearly whoo-masters. Loud, high-pitched WHOO’S would escape from there throats at all the right times (drum solos, wild lighting effects, mumblings from Dave [to wit:

“Gravvfbdaefbleggah….”

“WHOOOOOOOO!!!!!” turn to friend “What did he say?”

“I dunno” shrug “WHOOOOOOOO!!!!”])

Every time they would scream, I would scream louder in that football-game-whoo with the slight masculine rasp. I was expecting them to eventually turn around and tell me to shut-up, but they instead turned around with big smiles and “YEAH’s!”

Most effective use of whoo-ology? When one of the girls was apparently spending too much time with the stranger next to her, chatting about Dave’s majesty, and her girlfriend turned to her with a quizzical and imploring “whoo?”

good times, good times…

Speaking of which, Shrek was awesome! I had no real desire to see it (as Cameron Diaz was only animated instead of in the flesh, you see), and it was one of those spur-of-the-moment-type, thingamajig, dealie…bobs. At any rate, the story was good, the jokes were good, the feel was good, and the animation was amazing! Without giving more away than you’ve already gathered from the trailers, there are a multitude of references to our childhood fairy-tales, (some obvious, some not so) all of which make this a movie that, to me, seemed aimed more for the older generations (lucky thing, that). And as mentioned, the animation was stunning…look for the moving shadows of overhead leaves in the background, always difficult fire effects, and the facial expressions to see what I mean.

So, yeah, I recommend it…as it were.

A self-annotated entry from an entirely other day:

It’s about nine thirty in the morning and I’m foraging through the fridge at work, pulling out little cardboard boxes from yesterday’s lunch. I spoon some fried rice onto the slippery shrimp and drop a wad of cashew chicken on top. I mash the whole mess together, poke some chopsticks in and turn around to find a female co-worker standing behind me with a sort of Dian Fossey-ish look on her face.

“You’re not going to eat that, are you?”

“Um… Yeah.”

Cold?”

“Yeah.”

“Now?”

“Yeah.”

A shudder runs through her body.

“Who in the world has Chinese food for breakfast?”

The Chinese?”

She doesn’t know what to say to that.

“Plus,” I add, “I’m going to have scrambled eggs for dinner.”

From davezilla:

Growing up I had a neighbor, a wealthy man with two Rolls Royce sedans.

He drove the powder blue one everywhere. It had, [sigh] a bumper sticker. I know. On a Rolls. Theres a special place in Hell for people who put bumper stickers on $100,000 cars. Especially for his bumper sticker. It read: My other car is a Rolls Royce. And it was. I hated him.

Worse still. His license plate, a vanity plate of course, read HUMBLE. I know. I balled up my fists when first I read it too.

Personal space is a weird thing. At lunch today, my co-worker and I sat across from each other at a four-person table. The table itself was right on the edge of the relegated ordering-and-standing-around-waiting-for-your-food-area, which led to a strange unused-chair situation. People waiting for their number to be called would pull out the unused chair closest to them and have a seat while waiting.

huh?

Granted, they would tilt the chair away from us and towards the OASAWFYFA, and not actually sit at the table; but, they didn’t move it enough to truly separate the chair from our table’s sphere of influence. Nor did they ask if the seat was taken. This happened on 3 separate occasions. This puzzles me.

Obviously, totally anarchy cant be far behind

Yeah…so I’m getting this.

Anything with “Exo-Skeletor” in the name has to be rad. I wonder what they’ll do for the impending bug-in-tooth dilemma, though…

While meandering aimlessly through the workday, I somehow (via kottke) stumbled upon this.

Which, in all seriousness, is a rather fascinating gallery of photographs of early 1900s tsarist-Russia. The photographer, Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii, took each picture through a red, green, and blue filter. He then utilized a so-called “magic lantern” in which he could simultaneously display all three negatives, rendering a color projection.

Anyway, through the magic of digital-something-something, Prokudin-Gorskii’s pictures have been recreated in full-color. If youre anything like me (which I know youre loathe to admit), you think that anything more than about 60 years ago actually existed in B&W;, so its really very interesting to see these images in color.

There’s something slightly surreal about seeing a picture of, what could be, contemporary children hanging out, and, then realizing it was taken over 90 years ago.

As if I needed more proof that my originality is completely fabricated by my fervent imagination, TJ at library_geek sent me a link to this personalized license plate gallery. The main thing that differentiates it from my own is that: I am so. totally. making. fun. of. them. Whereas, this seems to be a legitimate shrine. This one simple twist makes me laugh all the louder. Here’s a new favorite:

Pam Krause from Ft. Pierce, FL, comments on her LOL LOL plate adorning her 93 Mustang:

I have had ALOT of weird looks from people on the street. I like it cause I Laugh Out Loud alot! :)))”

yeah…
