U.S. Intelligence Dead Wrong on Iraq Report
I hear sound of silence of millions of conservative hearts stopping. don’t worry, though, John Kerry can start on Monday.
For those of you keeping score, I went to sleep at 2:30 and woke up, completely unprompted, at 6:30 again today. It’s actually only “again” for me, because the posts where I informed you that my insomnia was back in rare form, and that I was not even at least sleeping later like I used to when this was happening, were eaten by Blogger over the last few days. I’m not tired, but my mind must be. It doesn’t seem right, somehow, to only get 4 hours of sleep.
So I turn on the news this morning to find out that Terry Schiavo has died. It was reported as I write this, in fact, only one minute ago. I’ve not commented at all on this situation, and I’m not going to now, as I am just a guy with a blog and have nothing in my life to help me develop an informed opinion about this. What I feel is completely opinion, and based only on the hypothetical.
I will say this, though: I am sorry for her family, and am glad she is free from the pain of this mortal coil.

Has anyone else being having troubel with Blogger this week? It’s kindly devoured 3 of my posts.
The sky is doing this strange thing where there’s water where before there was no water. It will be the usual sunny and warm day (as is the defining characteristic of SoCal) when, suddenly, a water-like substance (possibly water) will come falling out of what I can only assume is a leak in the sky. It is very annoying and spots my windows.
Someone should call the Super.
This weekend, however, was full of the boring and idyllic summer-esque type days we, as Southern Californians and God’s chosen people, deserve and are entitled to.

When walking along the beach yesterday afternoon, I came to the realization that this may indeed be the beginning of volleyball season. If you’ve ever wanted to see me with my shirt off and with sand on my back, this is your chance. Of course, the fact that I am really a 475lb. long-haul trucker from Nebraska may dissuade you somewhat.
There is just as much white-trash posturing in playing paintball as you think there is.
Sure is fun, though.

And I, of course, immediately thought that this is something I should build (but won’t). Speaking of dorkiness, I recently saw a MythBusters episode in which they tested something like this. They were attempting to prove (or disprove) the legend of Archimede’s heliostat in which he apparently used to destroy the attacking Roman fleet. On the show, the myth was busted, but the above link obviously tells a different tale.
Just as in overcoming erectile dysfunction, focus is the key.

This is a headline. A headline on the AP. A headline on the AP while people still die needlessly in Iraq.
The best thing to do in situations like this is to keep yourself busy. Hang out with friends, have your projects, spend some money, exercise more, clean the house, wash your truck, watch those movies you’ve been meaning to… and never let yourself be alone in the silence.

I am not a linear thinker.
I am, unfortunately (in this case), a massively parallel thinker… capable, for better or for worse, of thinking about a lot of different things at the same time. For instance, while writing this post, I am also thinking about: the specific cut plans for the dresser I am designing to build, the TV I need to order, the plot of the TV show I can hear in the background, the person for whom I am writing this post, and how to fix the bathroom door so it doesn’t stick anymore. This does not, by any stretch of the imagination, mean that I think any faster or better than a linear person, it means that I lay all of this stuff on itself and flip back and forth between it so quickly, that I can’t sense the pauses.
In other words, I can’t keep myself busy enough to escape.
Last night, after hanging out with friends, I was up until 3:30 in the morning, flitting around the apartment, taking care of this or that, watching TV shows I’d already seen, and basically trying to drive myself to the exhaustion it takes to send me to sleep in less than 5 minutes (as opposed to the usual 20-30).
It worked, but I was up and out of bed at 8:30 with nothing but things it hurt to think about flooding back in. I’m expecting the same tonight. This is where it’s inconveniet to be an insomniac.
As Solomon learned, this too shall pass… but I have a feeling not quickly.
In further evidence that this country is ruled by the entertainment industry, the judge decreed that the 30 court seats that Laci’s family had asked to be reserved for the sentencing were limited to only 23, while 44 seats were reserved for the media, and another 27 for the general public. Laci’s mother, Sharon Rocha, was justifiably quoted as saying, “This is not a show for us. This is not entertainment for us. This is not a status quo for us. This is a huge part of our lives.”
