Though it’s only my third official day, I’m already starting to notice the office quirks that at the moment are merely fascinating, but will certainly develop, in time, to be extremely annoying. Case in point:

There’s a little mini-fridge, accessible by everyone, that The Company keeps water in. They supply convenient 0.5L bottles of Arrowhead which I partake in at least twice daily. Next to this mini-fridge is a veritable mountain of un-refrigerated bottles, waiting to be put into the rotation. Yesterday, I went to said fridge to find it empty. Thinking it a mere oversight, I put in about 12 bottles, and wandered off to find something cold to drink. This morning I go to the fridge again… empty.

Seriously now, how hard is it to replace a bottle when you remove one? And yes, I know from everyone else’s perspective, cold botles of water are just magically appearing with me re-stocking the fridge, so why bother? I suspect I will soon lower myself to labeling bottles as mine. In fact, I think I’ll go put a “Keyser Soze” Post-It note on one right now. Ah the things we do to amuse ourselves…

So it’s all fine and great that Saddam’s regime is seemingly finished. My question, though, is where are all those Weapons of Mass Destruction™ that justified this war in the first place?

Maybe we should look behind the green curtain after all.

PS I also intended to mention something about how it’s very odd that no one has mentioned… uh, that terrorist guy who blew up the World Trade Center. You know, the whole September 11th thing? Umm, starts with a B… Bin laden! Anyway, I think it’s ironic (and my memory [or lack thereof] proves it) how so little is mentioned of the whole terrorist thing, wherein said Bin laden’s link to aforementioned Saddam Hussein was also supposed to be a justification for bombing the crap out of oil-rich Iraq.

So I’m sitting here, doing my first full day of work since being laid-off some year and change ago (yes, the irony that I am now blogging about it, and, by definition, therefore not actually working, has not been lost on me). Let me summarize how this feels in two words:

It’s really fucking weird.

It’s not the actual work, falling back into that was fairly easy (actually setting and abiding the alarm clock notwithstanding); it’s just the whole “thing”. For an entire year, I lived with the self-esteem hit of being unemployed, I watched M*A*S*H until there was no more M*A*S*H to watch, I ate sparingly and without conviction, and I mastered the sheepish smile used for when people ask me what I do. Granted, this is only a temporary contract job, but still. Hell, ADG has never even known me as employed. It wil be interesting, indeed, to see how this changes my life for the better.

Well that’s an interesting pickle

So I got a job.

Yeah, but in the Bay Area.

But I planned it that way. It’s a contract job for some 4 weeks, and will be giving me the money I’ll need to outfit my new LA lifestyle. You know, the limos and such….

So yeah, sorry about the whole MIA thing; I’m afraid it will get worse before it gets better. To bring you up to date in 100 words or less:

A lease has been signed in Venice, and I’ll be moving either this weekend or a few days after. So there you go.

So I’m down in LA for an interview and looking for apartments. So I’m sure you’ll understand if updates are sporadic…

Hot or Not?

Yeah, no. Not what you were thinking. It’s warm here in NoCal… dare I say hot, which is great. It makes me want to move back to SoCal even more than usual; where the weater is like this all the time (except for when it’s not), and is combined with beautiful palm trees, beaches, people, and mexican food. You can’t beat it.

At any rate, it seems to me that people either like more to be hot or to be cold. Me, I prefer hot, (I prefer “mild”, nut if I had to choose: hot). In my logic, you can always take off more clothes to be cooler; but, if you don’t have more jackets, you’re out of luck in the cold. What do you like?

The harp, the venerable and respected musical instrument of byegone ages, is now solely and exclusively used to announce dream-sequences and flash-backs on non-dramatic TV shows. Oh to be a professional harp player in this day and age.

Cyndi Lauper is in a new Dr. Pepper commercial. She’s singing in a bowling alley with I believe, Shakira. You’ve seen it.

I’m not sure how I feel about this.

Britney, Christina, Shakira, sure. They’re young with something to prove. But Cyndi Lauper? It was fun to see her again, but it seems like she should be above raw commercialism (I know, she sells her music, but you know what I mean). You don’t see Madonna shilling steak knives (yes, I know she’s all over Japan pitching sake or something, but I only recognize my immediate existence).

That is all.

No it’s not. I’ve been updating my machine from Windows ME (ie Spawn of Satan), to Windows XP (ie Lesser Evil). Once I’m in a happy place, I’ll start tellign you about Mexico. Here’s a preview: it was dirty, but fun.
